Start Here
Welcome to The Global Credit. This page is a guided roadmap through everything we publish, in the order we recommend reading it. You do not need to be rich, fluent in finance or living in a specific country to start — each step below points you to the section of the site that covers it, in plain language.
How this site is organized
We publish guides, news and comparisons across seven topics: Credit Cards, Travel & Rewards, Mortgages & Real Estate, Personal Finance, Investing, Loans & Debt and Money Hacks. Each topic has its own section you can browse from the menu. Because money rules differ everywhere, we also maintain a dedicated page per country — use it to see the rates, products and rules that actually apply where you live.
Step 1: Get out of debt
Nothing you invest can outrun what expensive debt costs you. Before anything else, visit our Loans & Debt section: learn how to list and renegotiate what you owe, which debts to pay first, and how debt consolidation and balance transfers really work. Keep one exception only — a small emergency fund, which is the next step.
Step 2: Build your emergency fund
An emergency fund — roughly 3 to 6 months of essential expenses in an instantly accessible account — is what separates a setback from a crisis. Our Personal Finance section explains how much you need, where to keep it, and how to build it on any income with a budget you can actually sustain.
Step 3: Master your credit
Your credit history decides what you pay for almost everything. In the Credit Cards section you will learn how credit scores work, how to choose (and use) a first card without ever paying interest, and how to compare APRs and fees. Use our free Card Finder tool to narrow down which card profile fits your situation, and check current card rates on our credit card rates page.
Step 4: Put your money to work
Once debt is gone and your fund is in place, start investing — small, regular amounts beat perfect timing. The Investing section covers index funds, retirement accounts and the mistakes that cost beginners the most. Compare where to park cash on our savings rates and CD rates pages, which we keep updated.
Step 5: Plan the big purchases
A home is usually the largest financial decision of a lifetime. Our Mortgages & Real Estate section walks you through deposits, fixed vs variable rates and the true cost of a loan — and our mortgage rates page shows where rates stand today so you never negotiate blind.
Step 6: Travel smarter and keep more of your money
With the foundations solid, optimize. Travel & Rewards teaches you how points and miles work without overspending, and Money Hacks collects the small wins — cash back, bank bonuses, fee avoidance — that quietly add up over a year.
